APIA, a branch of SunCorp, is known as one of the top insurance companies in Australia. With the company being established more than 20 years ago, they have grown a lot with now having over 450 employees and offering 700,000 policyholders exceptional service and prices.

Covers:

Travel insurance, car insurance, caravan insurance, boat insurance, motor home insurance, home insurance

Advantages:

Customer service is renowned for being polite, helpful, and easy to work and speak to, especially when problems and questions arise. Some reports states that clients whom had their houses broken into and car stolen, had APIA to settle their claims within two weeks.

Disadvantages:

Complaints about APIA are usually because of their extremities when it comes to the investigation of damages reported. Some clients said that they were required to provide information like SMS messages, e-mails messages, telephone calls, Internet activity, and bank statements to justify their damages.

In the past, APIA has taken longer periods to process claims which required clients to pay around $100 in fees. Claims were then suddenly rejected with the reason of not meeting the company requirements or that the damage was part of the exclusions. At the end, the customer was not given any refund, but instead with a note to tell them to read the Product Disclosure Statement.

The Product Disclosure Statement, and Terms and Conditions have been told to contain a lot of exclusions. For example, it is written that water damages caused by showers are not covered. This has disappointed many when they found out their damages could not be claimed.

Conclusion:

APIA is a leading insurance Australian company that many people have looked up to. However, all new customers should take some time reading their Terms and Conditions, and other formal documents to make sure what they are paying for is worth the price.
